Victa 560 Vs Big Bob Mower
#1

Does anyone own a Victa 560 and a Big Bob mower?

I am interested in what the cut quality is?

Which one will cut higher grass?

I mainly use a Big Bob mower and like the results. But a self propelled mower does have appeal.

I have used victa 550's in the past. One only lasted for 3 or 4 mows and died. The newer one I got was why too fast for me so when the motor died I did not remotor it.

Maybe I would have better luck with a Victa 560?

Shame no dealers have one in stock so one can even have a look at one.

I really am sick of the "we can get you one in mate".

Cheers

I did a crappy job with the 560 the other day. To small for the Deutscher but good for the 560 up and down and side slope, all in all the job was about 35 mins but i didnt want to have to push though, SP is the way to go. Nice thing is, put the mulch plug back in and go do some lawns. Oh and the 560 is geared.

Cut height is 18-76mm which is 4 mm better than the commercial 19'' but not as high as the Mastercut 28-93.

With the plastic side gaurd removed, the 560 will power thought long grass. For extra long and wet grass, use the lower gears so the machine has the ability to process the cut material other wise it will tend to bog down or stall. I removed the side gaurd becuase it hangs up and snags but I also found that it hampered the machines ability to discharge grass in heavy going. Obviously with the gaurd removed in side throw mode, some caution is needed with the potential for flung debris/stones.

I have never seen the value or purpose of the plastic side guard, took it off from day one.

They have to have some sort of deflector in place to cover their butt for legal reasons. It's just another useless thing to clog as you say Drew.

I am currently wanting to purchase a utility mower for clean up work in rentals.

I have been following another mulchmaster thread for months and don't need mulching or SP,

side throw only needed. My preference at the moment is a Big Bob with the Honda but I don't know much about the Kohler engine which is a cheaper option.

I have seen a MM 560 in a dealer in my travels with the victa vanguard again non SP, any thoughts

on these combinations or any other suggestions appreciated.

The MM 560 may be a better option in the long run with mulching.

I have a Kohler on a Rover Pro-Cut 560. Absolutely hammered the thing for 3 odd years and still going strong. Has actually surprised me how durable it has been. Certainly doesn't have the grunt of a 190cc Briggs but it gets the job done.

The Mulch Master is a heavy beast, I'm not sure I would want to pushing the thing very often.

Masport also do a Utility in small and large deck sizes. I have the larger one with the Briggs 850. Chews through pretty much anything.

I have a Honda HUT216 with GXv160 and have owned a 21" Bigbob with GSV190 - don't know what the corporate back story is here but they were pretty much identical mowers except for the donk - I recently bought a Mulchmaster with Briggs 850 motor to avoid pushing the HUT any more - but I haven't made my mind up about it yet - except to say if I had some really tall stuff to cut I would take the HUT - flat blades and no pretense to mulching means it just chops it down and spits it out the side

I have had some issues with the mulchmaster so I definitely don't write it off yet - I'll post on the mulchmaster thread after I've used it a bit more.

Deflectors are there for a reason and its stupid and negligent not to have one,  The speed and power things are thrown out is like a gun.  “The energy transferred by a typical lawn mower blade is equivalent to being shot in the hand with a .357 magnum pistol.” Worse yet, a lawn mower has the potential to turn any rock, stick, or debris into a dangerous projectile  https://www.telegrap...r-accident.html
