Trail Blazer Or Diamond Edge ?
#1

hey there crew,

as many of you are gathering ,I'm new and I am a massive noob at this  :P

need to buy some trimmer line !

sooo    My question is..   Trail blazer or Diamond edge ?

Now...All the shops i talk too say trail blazer...and thats currently what I have ...

but what do you guys use...?

and another question...  Bump feed or alloy head ?

I'm thinking about using two snippers...  one with a bump feed for my ####ty lawns I do ...and one with an alloy head...  so after I use my atom edger I can get a nice top cut edge with the alloy head snipper ...then mow  ..(if you know what I mean ) ;)

cheers B)

I won a large roll of Silver Streak Razor so that,s what i am currently using. Twist line seems to be a popular choice for manufacturers.

Prior to that just some orange line, i dont get fussy when it comes to line.

Always had a bump feed apart from the early days when i used the Tanaka alloy head, slow to load though and the day one self destructed i stopped using them.

Speed feed bump looks the way to go  :)

We're spoilt for choice with line - maybe depends on what you mainly do - I'm mainly regular suburban lawns - so I was sold some diamond edge a while back because it was supposed to cut vertical edges better - don't know that there was that much difference - line thickness probably just as important - I use 2.4mm only now - used to run 2.7mm and it whacked better on heavier  cutting but for general residential edging I stick with 2.4 and I have a bigger whipper with loaded with 3.0 for my rare brushcutting jobs

I’ve tried everything and formed the opinion that most of it performs the same. Many different names but the product usually comes out of the same factory. Unfortunately it does become brittle over time so it’s better to purchase smaller quan####ies often. Like Croc I only use 2.4mm for regular suburban work.

Just don't buy left handed line, I picked up a roll by mistake once, and all my edges were back to front

try the diamond edge 2mm for regular edges, the 2mm doesn't show mistakes as much so you can go faster,

I use 2.4 & 2.7 if the edges are thick but you need a gutsy motor to spin it.

diamond edge 2mm for light edges, the 2mm doesn't show mistakes as much so you can go faster,  2.4 & 2.7 if the edges are thick

I use too different machines one is light and has 2mm on all the time the other is a more powerful machine and has either 2.4 or 2.7 depending on the time of year and how much the kikuyu is growing .

diamond edge doesn't weld or go brittle, just store the main roll out of the sun and you will be fine

Check this out:-

wow!!   I got to get get one of these Speed feed heads...

so...does everyone use the bigger "450" commercial head ?

or the smaller 375 ?

I'm surprised that everyone uses small gauge trimmer line ! ...

I suppose the thinner 2.4 line can spin faster and is sharper than the 3.0 line ?   is that the reasoning behind it

well....going by what all you guys say...  I'm going to buy me a roll of 2.4 for my everyday use

I leave mine in a bucket of water under the dripline of the house, havnt had a problem for yonks. And yes i reckon it,s all much of a muchness too.

I've heard about this...storing trimmer line in water !

The thicker you go the more load on everything. And yes thinner cuts better.

I think I'd increase your medication until you feel calm again and all the edges look good again Mark  ^_^

Yes I've been thinking about giving 2.0 a go - I assume it wears faster but if you can go faster then no probs.

yes.... thats what I thought....

Ive been running 3.0mm  on my home trimmer thinking it would last longer....which i suppose it does...  but the faster you can spin the trimmer head the sharper the cut will be and moving faster through the work ...

I'm learning so much here :P

My shindy snippers run the speed feed 450 with 2.7 mm cord and my tanaka snippers run the 375 with 2.7mm cord.

I prefer the 375 seems to lay back the edges nicer and put less load on the machines

the 2mm doesn't wear fast, 2mm  just hasn't got the weight behind it to smash through thick kikuyu edges fast.  Spring growth season and kykuyu summer edges i use the 2.4 or the shindi with 2.7.

2mm is my favourite

storage, my line rolls stay inside i have cut lengths that stay in the vehicle out of the sun
