so get a message today around 11 regarding a job that was quoted and agreed on saturday, and booked for tomorrow.

Hi steve, we have decided to postpone the garden tidy up until october, i will contact you when we decide to reschedule.

GRRrrrr

lawns are one thing but 1/2 or full days are err, quite irritating

Ive dealt with this in a couple off different ways in the past,

from you had me booked to work, i had you booked to pay me

dont call me again i cant trust you

how would you feel to lose your days pay?

today i said call me and ill re-quote, and well see what happens next

Im pretty ok with taking it up to them and asking them how i might make some money tomorrow to feed my kids, but they tend not to take it so well and its my reputation to lose.

Is it just part of our lot or can pre payment work?

Many businesses have a late cancellation fee - don't know how you would collect it in practical terms - they'd just go somewhere else - but at least it would make them think twice before jerking us around.

I would (through clenched teeth) ask them to contact you in October but advise that the current quote would no longer apply. Assh0les

Cancellations do happen dont worry about them,  only way to avoid them is to do the jobs straight away before they can think about the price or a family members says he will do it.   If there are materials involved always get some money up front.

I have no problem getting money up front from a customers.

Customers requirement and situations change  and that is none of our business

You may have a really good customer something unexpected may have suddenly came up or they just didnt have the money available tommorrow and would rather pay you promtly in October.

You cant get upset about Cancellations it will do your head in, just do what you can to avoid them like start the job when you quote.

Last Cancellation i had was 2 weeks ago, $900 job one day before start,  i said thats great weather is good for fishing,   She said again she was really sorry and said  her neighbour just came over and said he has organised some one to cut all the trees down over hanging her property tomorrow and he was paying for it all.

Its a bit of a pain but they gave 24hrs notice. We all have to cancel stuff sometimes. Great excuse to spend the day doing FUN stuff. Go fishing, round of golf just do something that you enjoy doing. Stop and smell the rosses for a moment.

I normally just say: "No worries, thanks for letting me know and if I can be any help in the future please let me know."

I don't like pre payment. Sure it works but A Current Affair is full of people who take payment before finishing  a job.

The proverbial happens. Be nice & they'll most likely get you to do the job later maybe
