Purchased the Honda HRU 216 powered mower ($1750.00), done about 20 hours and white smoke on start up every time. Plain unleaded for 4 stroke, fuel switch is turned off during travel, not tilted. Runs ok after few seconds, but whats with the white fogger machine each time?

Is it time to take back to shop?

Also what I pain to grease the Honda UMK 4250 snipper. That bullnose grease nipple on the head is a pain. And that gearbox grease tube it comes with is impossible to push in. Maybe heat up tube first?

Then then the Honda hedge trimmer HHH25 starts making a metal "tinging" sound once going for an hour or so. Changed the oil, was black after 2 hours use. So how she goes on next run.

All gear is less than 2 months old. I though Honda was good gear?

I ordered some gear from that DMC mob a week ago, heard nothing yet. Not even a we got the order. Ill give the mutli tool set a go for $549.00

Thank goodness for the rain, just about to look for another job.

Time for another Coopers Red!

the white smoke on start up might be the choke ?   Mine does the same thing..  but i only use the choke for the first start of a morning...after that its just start at full revs (no choke).

DMC is usually pretty good..  On ebay it says They are on holidays at the moment ... ;)

If anyone lubed the gearbox like 'as shown' the invisible lubricant will just end up all over the outside

I checked my whipper gearbox during the day....its full of grease....I don't think I'll check it again for 6 months to be honest..

I change my oil in my whipper engine weekly ...its only 100mls...and takes a minute to do...  it really works hard..

mower , every 25 hours

The white smoke is just a choke start up thing. What you should be concerned about is if you can smell fumes whilst mowing, then it's burning oil. I always run my mower at full revs, don't throttle back. When I had a contract crew, we would mow until the the mowers ran out of fuel, about two hours, then have a break. Always insisted to run mowers on full throttle.

You should've done an oil change after 5 hours of first use on any 4 stroke as this is the break in period. From this point & changing oil after 5 hours of use do oil changes long before the oil turns black. I use red oil so it will turn to a brown & slowly darken as contaminants affect the oil at which point i'll change it. However i don't let it darken too much. 20 or 25 hrs the oil still is pretty good ,however once rings get real worn the oil will blacken quicker as time goes by.You've got a ways to go before that happens or perhaps not.

I'd be concerned as to why only 2 hours of running would blacken the oil that doesn't sound normal. Not that i use 4 stroke small motor's. I've got to go into the local mower shop in the morn to pick up parts i'll ask Greg & see what he say's. Whats the air filter like clean ? or perhaps others in here can confirm it happens to them  edit: i do realize your in Oz & it may be a bit on the dusty side where you are in which case the oil will blacken faster most likely

The smoke on the honda mower is like others mention it's just residue oil in the bore & a bit on the valve stems
