What Do You Eat Throughout The Day?
#1

Always wondered what other contractors are eating while on the job. For myself, I generally go to 7/11 and buy a wrap or something - and drink a plethora of water!

What do you guys eat and drink throughout the day? - Health options?

I force myself to scoff bananas through the day - if I don't, I'll end up hitting the maccas far too often.

Understand where you're coming from! I tend to lean towards the Maccas sometimes just from pure laziness (especially if I get cash Jobs)

OK I'm confused i thought this was about food but 2 people have mentioned maccas :)

Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against smile.png

A factor of the maggot-bag bakeries all closing, and peas not being allowed fresh on top.
A health risk we are told ..and darn unhealthy eating!

Oh for the days of the $2:00 "pie + schooner", chips optional for another 20cents ;-)

Just who does a "pub lunch" these days?

Springtime i have a pub meal 3+ days a week,  anything of the special board from $6 to $12 including a massive salad bar.

I would like to even if only for the reason of supporting a fading culture.
However way too many anecdotals and actual Court reads of fellas
getting done after a lunch.
Then there is the taboo topic, smoking.
The bloke sitting on the stool, durrie hanging on the bottom lip, knarled
hand wrapped around a schooner with tide lines marking his talk speed,
gone. That was my Dad, it was me.. until they closed the doors, turned
on the A/C , tuned up the music and finally...banned smoking.
As you might surmise... I havn't been into a pub in years.
Many thousands with me on that.

And on the brighter side?
I am healthier for it, have a home life with family, and not the publican,
and enjoy my smoke with no nannys frowning :-)

OH...I forgot, they changed the beer too!
I can remember when it was illegal to brew your own above 2%
and corner-stores (chinese) sold 2% 'softdrink'... it is a rort charging
full fare for the g*ns p*ss marketed today as beer!!
Consequently it is rare to find a can in our fridges these days.

Got nothing against folks "doing maccas"... I do smile though when
the health gurus get their bellow up on an obesity epidemic after
scoffing a plate of Thai :-D

What Do You Eat Throughout The Day?
#8

I've always been the worst eater as a lawnie.

In my worst days and in my earliest years I would eat nothing all day until I came home, often at 6 or 7 at night.

Later as I developed more of a balance with work, health and life, I still needed to force myself to eat during the day.

These days, I have only been part time for some years now as I suffer from chronic back pain, plus my round is now tiny in territory size compared to what it used to be. I am always close to home these days, and so I always eat at home now  :) I bought one of those egg steamers a few months back, and eggs are still my favourite now. Just stop at home, take a break, hot eggs and toast, with hot coffee in a jiff  ;)

Back in the days when I used to force myself to eat, I tried anything that I found enjoyable was best, so long as I got something into me. Home made soup in a flask in winter. Cold home made pizza, curried egg sandwiches, continental rolls with the works - whatever was delicious or an old childhood favourite worked best for me. High protein energy drinks worked a treat for a while too.

I must admit too, when I started in my very first days, and long before I had full days - I would sneak into Maccas for breakfast and sometimes lunch. Everything was so new back then, short days, working for myself, make my own rules... Those days long past now though.

Reflects my earliest trade years.
I began employed life in a high demand summer orientated industry. In the full force of a tropical summer it was not uncommon to do 12 hour days on little more than a "pie 'n beer, please" at 1:00.

I must admit too, when I started in my very first days, and long before I had full days - I would sneak into Maccas for breakfast and sometimes lunch. Everything was so new back then, short days, working for myself, make my own rules... Those days long past now though.

Ah yes, the blessed release into PPS tax service, took 10 years of PAYE to get there but never looked back, and did much more over many diciplines than I would have if left to musical chairs in employment.
And the effort allowed me to retire relatively early - with a full store of "war stories" :)

What Do You Eat Throughout The Day?
#10

I always make and take my lunch and its usually sandwiches and a few pieces of fruit and a large muesli type bar. The reason I do it is if I dont have something with me I probably wont eat at all. If I am busy I just want to keep moving and don't want to mess around ordering in a shop, just cant be bothered with it. But is impossible to be a lawnie and not eat during the day.

Its damn handy to have it with you in the car. Often I am eating it in transit, get stuck at a bad red light and I just pop the esky lid open and start scoffing.

Add to this I have a two litre water esky thing, with a fresh ice pack in it every day, gets re filled a couple of times on hot days.

Most of my food is devoured by 10 am!

I have a decent breakfast - rolled oats or steak, eggs and tomato or an omelette - then fruit and couple muesli bars during the run - 2.5ltr water jug with a berocca, glucosamine powder (dodgy knees), no sugar guarana drink (bit of a kick in my flabby old butt) and ice added - refill plain water mid morning in summer -

Friday is Thai lunch with a mate. So If I'm working Friday (I try not to) I knock off at 12-1pm.

I eat anything from a counter meal at one of the locals to a fish burger at one of the take away food placers. I have been guilty latley of stopping for a $5 small Mc feast meal with a choc sunday at maccas latley. Its just a bargain quick easy lunch.

Every day starts with a large cap 2 sugars
Usually 2 bottles of (home made) ice coffee
If it’s hot 1 litre of powdered Gatorade

Depending on location
Roast pork roll
Subway
Rat coffin
Commercial day, scrambled eggs+bacon+mushrooms+toast

I find the best food is in the industrial area takeaways.

If it’s big fast food- red rooster or rarely

A bbq at home in less than flat out times is the best though

Brought from home never ever
Maccas, never ever

I wouldnt mind a not hot day, it fairly sucks here at the moment and ive been here since 74 and mowing since 99.

Start with a bowl of weetbix with a couple of muesli bars ( the dissolve in milk type ) then start drinking water till i leave and sip a cordial flavoured ( weak ) jug of water often (plain water gets a bit ordinary ). Come lunch time a couple of sangers of whatever,s going or an apple or 2 and muesli type bar.

^^ no Scallop pie? - we had a few during our month there a few years back - very tasty - we thought we were going to pig out on seafood the whole way round the coast but found it was top quality but pretty pricey - had a better feast on the Great Ocean Road - best fish and chips I've ever had I think.
