Hard hat with built in ear mufflers, removable snap on face screen (Stihl)

Akubra Squatter

Cheap straw hat (always too loose) with stick on towelling tennis racket grip stuck on the inner band.

I want one of those asian conical bamboo/reed 'rice paddy worker' hats but I can't source one locally.

I had an real Egyptian woven pith helmet in my younger years, it was really good but the tropical rains and humidity eventually killed it, would be perfect for dry climates, works like an evaporative air conditioner.

To keep cool…

Early start, early finish.

Shade, regular breaks (this is why you should never quote a job by the hour)

Long, full beard.

Hydrate the night before and through the day with un-chilled water (don't guzzle chilled water)

Don't over do the water and flush all your sodium salts

this is worth the read https://en.wikipedia...ki/Hyponatremia

Supplement with Magnesium, Zinc to avoid muscle cramps.

Kmart $7 straw hat, on my second one for the season. Still have one more in the cupboard ready to go.

And a camo cap to suit the season when it’s not too sunny. Autumn leaves, snow camo in winter, jungle camo when it’s growing. Desert camo when it’s dusty.
A sombrero makes sense but haven’t gone ahead.

Search eBay for “asian straw hat” should find you one grae

Bunnings straw hat for $5 - get through a couple per season - just bought one of those "sahara" caps with the flap covering the ears and down the back so I'll see how that goes too

Yeah they are very good, had mine about a year and still perfect.   Solves the problem of wearing earmuffs with a wide brim hat.

You can soak them in water when really hot to keep you cool as well.

My wife is making a separate wide brim attachment for my hat. So, velcro onto the existing brim and stick it on when needed. I'll try it tomorrow.

Just a quick side story.

I rode a Aprilia Millie from Sydney to the turn off to Uluru and rode a HD Night train back. It was bloody hot on the way back and I had a full face on so I decided to soak the helmet with water to try to keep my head cooler. Was a very bad idea as you could hear cracking and popping noises as the air moved the water around the foam- all the way to Port Augusta..Drove me bonkers in conjunction with the heat,

My coolhats  arrived today. They look the goods. You can adjust the head size using a cord which is another nice feature as well as a safety catch on the chin strap. If the strap gets caught up it has a clip that releases,

Just bought 2 new ones from the big B - what does the hairspray do to them Drew? - water/sweatproof them? - the sweat is what kills mine - they shrink about 20% over a year being soaked in it daily and then they start to blow off because they don't fit my scone anymore  :)
