What Are You Bad At?
#1

So we all love to blow our own trumpet, and I have often dribbled about my confident quoting process.

But I want to reveal something I am terrible at that I believe others are good at. I just cant stop a customer moving me from 2 weeks to 4 weeks, especially when i know darn well that it no longer requires a 2 week cut. I just cant bring myself to cut a lawn that does not require mowing, and yet I see heaps of lawnies doing it.....basically cutting dust!

And sometimes it is actually me that volunteers to move to 4 weeks, only to later whip myself with a piece of 3.0mm Diamond Edge.

What are you bad at?

I am bad at dropping customers. This is a monthly mow, terrible parking and I have to carry a pushy up some stairs. Oh and it is not very close. The customer is very nice and I know she wont be able to get anyone else to do it so I persist. I have also pushed two customers from fortnightly to 3 weekly. Worst of all I recently did a chainsaw job that I quoted $150 for. It only took me 50 minutes so I gave her back $50. Glad I got that off my chest.

1, No she won’t find an established pro, but there’s always someone starting and/or going broke. Drop her in the off season and she’ll find someone and be ok.
2. Take it. Do you ask for more money when you under quote?
3. I reckon it’s better to push the repeat out before the customer does it to you. Esp in full winter to avoid the dreaded but not listened to “I’ll call you when it’s ready”
