Invading Lawn
#1

Hi,

I have recently bought a new house and am slowly starting to bring the lawns back to life after some neglect over the dry summer we have had here in Adelaide.

I have noticed the back lawn has two different species of lawn (see attached images). The 'Invading lawn' is along the southern boundary and gets little sun until the late afternoon. It is darker in colour and appears to have thinner blades.

I am very much an amateur gardener and would love some help with:

1. Identifying what species of lawn I have
2. What is the best way to remove the invading lawn specie

Thanks!

From the pics to me it looks like kikuyu.

I can't see any other species from the pics.

In shaded areas the kik will grow taller & thinner, searching for the light.

Are you sure there is 2 diff species ?

Cheers Fred.

Whatever the other species is it is not going to be able to compete with the kikuyu. Just keep watering the kikuyu and cut it long, but regularly, which currently in Adelaide is probably once a mth.

My advice would be to visit the Facebook Lawn Fanatics site. I was just with their moderator who is always happy to help out.

I'm retiring, not sure where I'm moving to. Greener pastures or back to FNQ.

That’s couch invading kikuyu. There’s nothing registered for use on turf that will work to remove the couch, and it’ll just keep coming back too.
