Seeking opinions on mulch mowing & thatch build up.

By mulch mowing we return nutrients to the soil but, is this negated by thatch build up ?

Cheers Fred.

Regular mulching does not cause Thatch...  and on my own lawn I never use a catcher...but I mow my own place twice a week

Thatch is a build-up excessive roots and stems.  its not clippings,

I Read a indepth study in the US on Mulching it was about  Thatch,   Mulching had no affect on thatch levels ,

They also tested the effect of mulching large amounts of leaves and determined even mulching all the leaves there was no thatch increase.

Thanx Guys.

Consensus seems to be that mulching does not actually create thatch as such but, I think that mulching longer and/or wetter grass that doesn't decompose quickly, may add to the detrimental effects of thatch as well as other probs.

Cheers Fred.

I agree clippings don't cause or even add to thatch at all.  Clippings are 80%+ water, the rest breaks down in a matter of days and acts a natural fertilizer.
