Paint/coat Deck Underside?
#1

Anybody bother? I've noticed on the timemaster the deck underside paint already worn off and bare steel showing a tiny bit of surface rust. Would be good to paint again but I'm thinking it will just get blasted off again in no time?

i use JB WELD on my HRU216 deck at the wear piont every year,  holds up a full year, great for small areas. expensive to do whole deck.

did a rideon deck with brush on bitumen body deadener that looks very promising

don't use bituminous deadener it is sticky (Black Jack)

instead try

spray on body Schutz*

or

2 pack urethane* or epoxy

or

spread on Seam sealer*

(Etch primer* if needed)

each has a purpose, do your research first

*all from auto paint suppliers

POST EDIT

the above advice was meant for large fabricated decks,

grumpy

starting to think it's pointless, essentially the deck gets sandblasted while mowing so I doubt any coating will last any decent period

Maybe a 2 pack epoxy on an alloy/steel deck but gee if you get 3 years commercial use out of a mower it's Gumtree time IMO - nothing much you can do with a 217 deck anyway except for plastic welding maybe?

Used to get contractors in the 90’s painting under the deck in Blackjack “Liquid Tar”. All it does is obstruct to airflow to the catcher or allows much more build up to choke everything up. I don’t understand the need to do so.

Yeah the HRX is fine with the plastic was just wondering what to do with steel decks, I guess if you wash them off regularly the deck should last years even if just bare steel.

on expensive fabricated decks the cancer starts at un-welded seams, gaps near welds, tight corners, bolt/mount, crud accumulation places etc

they leave the factory with a cheap paint coating which soon cracks at joins. Seal them from new with a flexible sealer… even Sikaflex PU is better than the manufacturers paint on seams, joins, nooks and crannies.

Pushies, wear it out, buy another one.
