High / Low Fuel Mixtures..
#1

Hey there crew,

Ive recently been dabbling in a bit of DIY 2 stroke tuning..

The question I have is this...

once I find the sweet spot of either the High or low speed screw..  I want to slightly favor the rich side..  so would that be turning the screw out or in ?

Hope that makes sense..

Cheers

I've posted these before

AU Mechanic (Dave) is one of my life long mates

https://www.youtube..../MPAcopy/videos

His Carb tutorials are here (full list)

https://www.youtube....XCK-FW7X9u59DM0

I haven't watched them recently but

maybe in 9,10,11 or 12

for tuning OPE 2 strokes.

Worth your time to run through the series.

It's always good to learn more than you need to!

anyway if you are lazy

In/down/gap close on a screw that controls a fuel delivery circuit (closed is zero) = leaner

In/down/gap close on a screw that controls bleed air delivery (closed is zero) = richer

don't accept advice from me, spend the time to watch the videos…

boring yes, BUT learning is priceless

no worries Ando

Is the screw closing an air circuit or a fuel circuit?

its the high/low fuel screws..  One controls the max RPM...(high) and the other controls the idle (low)

this one looks simple enough

tick over = idle (my guess)

do Daves carb tutorials, a few hours and you will know why, how

Short answer turning it clockwise leans the mixture.

I could of said that John and I did

In/down/gap close on a screw that controls a fuel delivery circuit (closed is zero) = leaner

It was meant to be food for thought

I believe better learning and memory retention comes from understanding why and self discovery.

It was never meant to be smärtass or offensive

Sorry Ando

I meant screwing it in and downwards towards the seat/seal until ultimately it closed the flow until zero

those screws are taper needles arranged above a fuel circuit, ifs you keep screwing them in eventual the circuit is closed and the fuel flow is zero

EDIT:

Red, red wine goes to my head

Good video Grae, I’m glad I don’t have to muck around tuning anymore. 18mths with Lithium now and nothing would ever make me go back. That aside Ando you’ll work it out by ear, a lean mixture will run away with the revs a rich mixture is more of a sputtering sound. Hard to explain it in writing lol.

Ive been learning the art of tuning a 2 stroke and I think I'm pretty good at it now..and I have been tinkering with this for the last 6 months..I can get them running perfect and singing a wonderful tune.and rev up like a flash..  I just wanted to re assure myself that I was setting the screws correctly by slightly favoring the Rich side...and I was ..  so I'm happy about that

I haven't attempted to tune a 4 stoke carby yet...

Don't think there is anything Ando - on the Honda whippers anyway - just idle rpm

Jim's Brain Surgery, Brazilian Eyebrow waxing and 4 Stroke Carby Tuning. Plenty of scope there

I'll also sell hotdogs :P
