Hey all. Just wondering how much schools pay for their grounds keeping services? Does anyone have any experience in this market?

Thanks in advance

I service 4 schools i just provided them with a quote.

Once the service has been completed i simply send the invoice.

This is for private catholic schools im not sure if state schools do things diffrently.

You will need public liability insurance, working with children check, police check and provide msds and swims sheets before they even look at you as a service provider.

Most schools need to be done after hours or on weekends which can be a pain at times lol.

Cheers

I thought the going price for a school would be at least $45 per hour.

The 2 schools down the street get maintained during school time, I’d reckon you’d want to add at least 50% onto the expected times once you dodge the kids all day.
Cost? same as every job, ask em what happened to the last guy and how much did you used to pay.
They’ll usually tell you most of what you need to know

yep there is a guy that does about 3 schools, handy man work and mowing at one school.  does a great job highly skilled trades man can do anything.  $30 per hr as a contractor, great guy

The thing is he doesnt really need the money he is only working for something to do until his wife retires. he has been doing about 20-25 hrs a week for the last 5+ years

I guess being semi retired 600-700 a week is keeping the guy fit and occupied whille bringing in a little spending money.

PS: his wife is on 120K

Sounds like he might also be motivated by giving something back to the community so if that's the case good on him - don't think most schools are flush with funds -

Most of the Schools around Brisbane have their own full time groundsman. I used to know one a few years back, he was on $19.60 an hour.

They’ find someone cheaper than $800 a day in winter. You have to give up a bit of summertime cream for the regular winter money.
I was talking to an excavation/landscaper with a small digger, he was saying he hits a limit at about $80 an hour. But they charge 8/day for days at a time not $100++/hr for 25 minutes like us.

Yep and the contractor just mows the oval and moves on to the next job, he,s not there for an 8 hour day.

Hey Smokey. I’m assuming the schools you service turn you a reasonable profit?

Yea i do alright on them i dont mow lawns for fun lol.

I find them a bit of a pain at times because its best to mow them out side of school hours.

Just got to charge accordingly for the inconvenience.
